S.A.C. Challenge – Week 5 – Issued by Jordan Howard – Write for a pitch for a new TV Series

JordanHowardJordan Howard is Creative Director at CCS Rights Management.  The company provides Music IP Management Publishing. Their roster of services includes sync licensing.  Here is his challenge:

Challenge: I am looking for songs to pitch for a new series on Lifetime that stars Christina Ricci. The series can be best described as a 19th Century “Dexter.” Series centers around a female anti-hero, lots of emotions. Love, Lust, Hate, Danger. Musically I am looking for songs in the vain of: Black Keys, Bon Iver, Band of Skulls, Carolina Chocolate Drops, James Vincent McMorrow. For one episode, I am looking for a replacement for Hozier’s “To Be Alone.” As long as the song is in a similar wheelhouse and is lyrically similar, that is what is most important.

Deadline:  March 16, 11:59pm EST.

Please submit the following in the comments below:
1.  Link to a blog post about your experience with this challenge.
2.  Link to your song (preferably on SoundCloud) with lyrics posted in SoundCloud.
Good luck!

I think the only way I can actually leave a post here is if I don’t log in with one of the options and just leave an email address… I’d appreciate any feedback…

“Bury Me” is my offering for SAC’s Week 5 “Jordan Howard’s TV Series Pitch Challenge”. Now that’s a long title! Anyway, the intention with this song is to express that moment where life is ending and there is no turning back. Hopefully you will find it Bleakly Beautiful!

    “Bury Me”
I can hear the sound of laughter fading,
Falling further into the deepest wells I have
All the mountains I have moved can’t keep
The one beneath my feet from crumbling
    Crumbling away

    chorus
And I feel it slipping now
And I feel it falling now
And I feel it coming down
    Down over me
    All over me

Shining worlds where once we wandered swallowed
By the shifting sands of you and I and time
All around the shells of what we recognize
Get left behind as restless spirits
    Move forever on

And I feel it coming now
And i feel it coming down
And I feel it slipping down

    Down over me
    All over me
    Bury Me

    Solo

And I feel it slipping now
And I feel it falling now
And I feel it coming down

    Down over me
    All over me
    Bury Me

    releasing me to sweet surrender
cause it’s ok, the letting go
cause it’s ok, to just let go

    In My Arms

    Verse
Oh love she has finally died
Now she’ll be with by my side
    Existing as one once again
    Joined forever, never ends

We’ll walk the earth and be so free
Existing in love her and me

You have no worries, you’ve finally arrived
Death will greet you, bring you alive
Now it’s time to see from above
Finally we join in long lost love

    Bridge
    I see you coming now!
Yes I see you coming now!
    I see you coming now!
Yes I see you coming now!
    My Love

    Chorus
I can feel you in my arms
Can you feel me in your arms?
I can feel you in my arms
Can you feel me in your arms?
    My love

  4. Mr. Jordan Howard, thank you for the challenge, and taking the time to listen to my song

    “THE CAVE”,

written for the female anti-hero with themes of love, lust, hate & danger.

Thank you to SAC, Lily Cheng, James Linderman & Debra Alexander.

I predict that you may love or hate the song while the voice may make you lust for danger, and caution: you may want to linger there!

Well so far I have had to do the entire challenge using live recording with my Samsung phone recorder because my computer/DAW/mixer are having an argument. I can’t even send a wave file if I wanted…so I’m a little frustrated that I’m not doing the songs justice. Hopefully I will have this figured out soon and be able to make tracks…in the meantime here is another rough recording…

    1. Trish,
I didn’t see it posted on the facebook page so I thought I’d give you some feedback here.
Great song. Loved it. Really hooky chorus. Hope it was fun to make. Sometimes the bleakest songs are.
      Cheers,

    1. Hi Sean – i missed this one on the march break – cool picture to go with a cool song. I love the idea of the driving base line. Also love the effects on some of the vocals. All of your tunes on this challenge have grabbed me – but this one really suits your voice, I think!
Look forward to hearing more in the future Sean.

  9. Ok at the 11 and a half-th hour (no that’s not a word, but the rest of you are making of three a day so I am too! 😉 here is my week 5. It has been a painful labour on this one, a few iterations and rewrites, some great feed back from James Linderman Debra Alexander and fellow challengerones! This one is going on my list for week 7 – Tweak week! but still made a lot of progress on it. Let me know any thoughts you may have!

  12. As always thanks to our coaches James Linderman and Debra Alexander. I was so encouraged by their kind words about the song I submitted for week 4. Thanks also to SAC staff especially Lily Cheng for her support this week. And thanks to this week’s challenge issuer Jordan Howard.

I asked SAC staff Lily Cheng if I could pitch for a different TV show about weddings I found on broadjam.com , instead of the ‘1900’s Dexter’ style show. Thankfully she said yes. I just felt I needed to find a show that was more in keeping with my Christian values. I wanted to pitch to another TV show affiliated with Mr. Jordan Howard’s company CCS Rights Management. However, I could not find listings for pitch requests to specific shows on their site. Here’s my blog and soundcloud links.
